Default The new rewards

Ok im sure everyone has saw that a lot of the CC shard rewards are now wintersday gift rewards.

wat does every1 think about wats going to happen to prices of the gifts, alcohol, party, and sweet pts?

obviously gift prices are going down but are the price per point going to go down aswell?

and was it a good move by Anet?

Yeah, of course. More supply = lower prices. This just happened at Halloween. I sold a crapload of buff sugar before Halloween for 400g each, but if I tried to sell the same items now I'd get about 1/4 of that price.

Ya I couldn't believe that Snowball Dominance had it's reward increased from 10 cc shards last year to 10 wintersday gifts this year.

I mean, it was quite a nice little farm already, but now it's just like... I dunno, too much? So little effort for such a high rewards seems like a good incentive to neglect the rest of the wintersday content (including the fun new repeatable quests).

With GW2 in a year or so, I think its a good move. People that need the titles have easier access to consumable points. Event farmers who dont want/need the points will earn less gold. But, it will still be easy money.

Best. Idea. Ever.

Well not ever, but a good idea. I didn't like the grindy nature of rewards, once they became titles (and titles became measured via HoM rewards) festival items became unfun, No longer did I pop them for the pleasure of popping them, I carefully hoarded and muled them onto my GWAMM toon so as not to waste them, or stacked them until I could sell them.

Bonus rewards makes actually questing and playing through content worthwhile in comparison to raptor farming or the like, much better outcome for me personally.

3 hours of SD farming yielded over 1500 party points from gifts alone and about 500 sweet tooth points. I've also got 1.5 stacks of eggnog and 1 stack of spiked and a lot of candy canes too.

And we've got two weeks to take advantage of all this? I could max Party, Sweet Tooth, and Drunkard in two days of straight farming...

(well Drunkard would take a little more time, but the alcohol would be there)

Meh, the easier it is for me to get my hands on sweets, party items and booze the better. I'm not a big money maker, I just want to max the titles before GW2 comes around.

I will make the quests anyways. Who doesn't enjoy killing humbugs?

Well, excepting the oldest ones in LA. I don't really need any more candy offhands. Most of my heroes with an offhand slot they don't use have one of those in them.

I think its a good idea, obviously as there both older and new players right now who are working on their HOM.
For older players its a much quicker way of maxing sweet tooth/drunkard/party animal and adding more then the 30 points to their HOM.
For newer players, this may be their first major ingame event which will bring in a fair bit of cash and consumables allowing them to make inroads into the 30 points min as well as presenting GW as a fun and profitable form of gameplay (so buy GW2 dagnabbit!)

Never did - that is the dragon festival (well you could get one for 125 i believe - but it was not required. It was part of the redux I think. The one at the finale was free)

I don't know what it was like last year, but coming at this from the perspective of a newbie, I've got to say that I was really thrilled when I received 10 gifts instead of 10 candy cane shards my first time through SD.

For me, the whole "mystery" of "what will my next click bring?" is a big deal. Yes, I know it's going to be one of several specific items... but which one? How many of XYZ will I get out of this batch? How long before I make my first stack of ABC?

It's also a big boost in terms of working towards HOM stuff. I started collecting the requisite trophies for Wintersday items around Halloween, because someone suggested I do so. So I was ready with those to trade to the collectors right away... between that, and the gift rewards, and what I'm finding in random drops, I'm well on my way to amassing enough of these items to be able to go for my titles.

As a newbie, I don't have a bunch of platinum to blow buying stacks of sweet/party/alcohol points from others.

Plus, finding the various candy canes in my presents is also a pretty big deal... I'm still new, my character isn't uber buff, neither are my heroes. We do alright, and I'm learning, but I still rack up DP in many areas I want or need to do... having a nice stock of the various candy canes has some important impact on my overall game play. Those peppermint candy canes seem, to me, like bordering on mana from heaven... knowing that if I put lots of time into an area and rack up the DP in the process, I don't just have to give up and start from scratch. I can keep working at it until I get it right, or recognize that my build sucks and CHOOSE to leave.

So yeah, I'm pretty pleased with the setup... it's EXCITING for me! I'm geeked about the possibilities... and I don't feel like I'm just grinding away for nothing.

It's not all that thrilling when you're opening 1000+ presents at a time, with no rare rewards like mini availiable in them. Which is what you will be doing after very little time with this quest.

Giving 10 gifts per the non-repeatable quests would be a fine boost for "noobies." 10 per a 1-minute farm for experts is the exact opposite of that; it just makes those noobies 10 gifts worthless.

For those who think SD rewards are too great I suggest that you boycott that repeatable quest and stick to the others
I'll continue grinding for my sweet/party points in SD though!

Only if they're the type of people who are only in it for profit (And if they are? T'Hell with 'em!). For us regular folks, we get tons of good rewards out of them. Rewards we'll actually be using.
